COSMID Trial Overviews
Diverticulitis is the leading cause for non-emergency surgery to remove all or part of the colon. However, both doctors and patients often have a difficult time deciding when surgery is the best treatment option for diverticulitis. Researchers are interested in better understanding how diverticulitis and treatment for diverticulitis is affecting quality of life for patients. The COSMID Trial is comparing the outcomes of treatment with medicine versus surgery for patients with diverticulitis. The COSMID trial is actively recruiting patients at 35 hospitals throughout the US. If you have diverticulitis, have not had surgery for it, and speak English or Spanish, you may be eligible to participate.
