The DEBUT study examined outcomes for patients with diverticulitis to better understand:
how doctors and patients make decisions to have elective (non-emergency) surgery to remove all or part of the colon;
how treatment decisions affect symptoms, quality of life, and overall health;
the impact of diverticulitis on patients’ lives.
Results of this study are contributing to to the development of a patient-centered model of care for diverticulitis, informing patient and clinician decision-making, and laid the groundwork for current studies of treatments for diverticulitis, the COSMID and IMPEDE trials.
